I switched my kitchen to induction and spent the first month fighting a pan the cooktop refused to see and a breaker that tripped right at dinnertime. Cooktop Clinic is what I wish I’d found back then: plain-English diagnosis guides, tested on the countertop induction burner I keep as a test bench — plus a clear line on when a fix is yours to do and when it’s a job for a licensed electrician.

When an induction cooktop acts up — a pan it suddenly refuses to detect, an error code the manual explains in four words, a breaker that trips only when two burners run at once — the answers online are scattered across forum threads, locked behind pay-per-answer sites, or written by someone trying to sell you a new cooktop. I started Cooktop Clinic to cover the part nobody does well: living with the cooktop you already own — decoding what those flashing letters mean, figuring out which pans it will actually see, and knowing what it really costs to run.

How we write these guides

Every guide is grounded in the official manufacturer manuals (GE Profile, Bosch, KitchenAid, Samsung, Frigidaire and others), owner communities, and hands-on testing on the countertop induction burner I keep on the bench for exactly that purpose — when a guide says a pan fails the magnet test or a setting changes the noise a coil makes, it's because I tried it. An induction cooktop is still a 240-volt appliance: we help you understand and diagnose, and we tell you clearly when a job belongs to a licensed electrician or an authorized service technician — not a DIY afternoon. I'm not an electrician and I won't pretend to be one. The numbers and procedures here come from manufacturer manuals and real-world testing, and I'll always tell you which is which.
